GIVING AND ASKING OTHERS
Can we give too? Yes, if you owe federal income tax. Up to $1,700 per person, per year, dollar for dollar.
Who should I ask? Grandparents, friends, coworkers, and local business owners. Anyone who owes federal income tax, in any state, can give and receive the credit.
Can they give now? They can pledge now through December 31, 2026. It is free and non-binding. Gifts made on or after January 1, 2027 earn the credit.
Where can they make a pledge or donate? Go to DunkirkCCA.org/give
Do they have to give $1,700? No. $1,700 is the most. Gifts of any amount earn a dollar-for-dollar credit. Many people give $500 or $1,000.
Does it cost the donor anything? Not when their tax bill covers the gift. The credit applies to total tax owed, not the refund, so most people who get a refund still qualify.
Can a donor fund my child? No. Donors can designate your school. While federal law bars designation to a specific student, your school will help your family apply.
